The Fat Pheasant is owned by local businesswoman Karina Bowlby. Karina who was born and bred in South Queensferry had been a regular at the pub for many years before it closed.

Saddened by the loss of the pub to the local community Karina decided to take on the project of refurbishing it and reopening it as pub that provides locally sourced food. The Fat Pheasant is a not for profit business and is supported by Karina in order to maintain this vital community space for the village. It provides an important social hub saving many of the villagers from isolation as there is no public transport in the village, as well as binding the community who otherwise might not know their neighbours.

We work very hard to make our business sustainable and our Chefs work cleverly to ensure the minimum amount of wastage. Most of our food we get from suppliers within a 20 minute drive whilst supporting small, independent businesses such as Castle Game and John Lawson Butchers.

All food is brought in fresh and cooked to order so a little patience may be required whilst the food is made but we guarantee it will be worth it.

The Fat Pheasant is handily located with many good walks around Hopetoun House in walking distance and Outlander places of interest close by. We also have a bike rack which is visible from the Conservatory dining room for keen
